Enso

I started this painting during college at UC Santa Cruz in 2013. Five years later, after numerous housing situations, three years of lobster fishing, and a couple fortunate travels abroad, I am proud, and a bit surprised to acknowledge its completion. I owe a big thanks to Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine for advertising this "High Art" competition. I immediately felt I could use this competition as motivation to buckle down and finish this piece, particularly since the theme resonated with the symbolism and content I attempted to convey. The theme of this competition was "Freedom" and open to all artists of the planet Earth. My goal for this painting was to create a visual metaphor for the spectrum of life and its effects on the planet we inhabit. The composition is filled with fictional and non-fictional creatures, symbols, and philosophies interacting with each other, explicating ideas to the grand story set amongst an amoebius strip. I found it most interesting returning to this painting after so many years and attempting to follow my initial sketches, for I feel my style has evolved since I first began construction. I love working on a large scale and look forward to producing more pieces of this manner in the future. Prints will be coming soon...
